Happy Independence Day My Dear Sri Lankans

Happy Independence Day My Dear Sri Lankans!

It was music to my ears
So I removed my earphones
To listen to them speak
A language I knew
Music to my ears

At first I didn’t understand
But music to my ears
Then I understood
And again I understood
Music to my ears

It was their body language
It was their smiles
It was their laughter
It was their peace
Music to my ears

They spoke Tamil
They spoke Sinhala
They spoke English
They spoke Human
Music to my ears

Eppadi Suham? (“How are you” in Tamil)
I cared to ask
Nalla Suham
(“Very good” in Tamil)
They cared to reply
Music to my ears

Koheda Gewal?
(“Where is your home” in Sinhalala)
I cared to ask
Galla, Matara, Hambantota,
Madakalapuwa, Chawakachcheri
Api okkoma kawalamey
(A list of villages and “We are all mixed here” in Sinhala)
They cared to reply
Music to my ears

Hello! Good Morning!
They cared to say to another
Good morning!
Another cared to reply
Music to my ears

#blessed to see #true #beauty of #peace and #friendship on #independenceday to #celebrate #truefreedom
